Mechanism of Action

Salmeterol is a Long-acting beta-agonist (LABA) which acts locally in the lung as a bronchodilator. It acts by stimulation of intracellular adenyl cyclaseresulting in Increased cyclic AMP levels which cause relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle and inhibition of release of mediators of immediate hypersensitivity from cells, especially mast cells.
